Hello Ian, perhaps your research should be extended to psychiatry, for even though more or less forgotten, the work of Dutch psychiatrist J.H. van den Berg is about 'sociosis' which is a social desease expressing itself in communities having developed their own coping strategies with reality, which may not in all respects be valid in the long run. In the 50s there were no possibilies to scan brain activity when these socioses occurred and could only be treated on the psychiatrist's couch. Now it is a different story. I would very much welcome research of that kind!
