I never got to post my thoughts on this....so here it goes. I also am uncomfortable with the idea that we are all random results of a specific process and serve no function and meaning in the world. I mean, if we are continually being created and life is still going on, then why would any of us be meaningless in the general scheme of things? I guess the only way in which we can make sense of ourselves is by making meaning out of our lives from our social organizations, family, cultural groups and various institutions. So, no, I don't think we are random...I mean, the fact that that random sperm got into the egg to fertilize it can be random, but I don't think that we as humans are random and meaningless. We create that meaning.

Narrative is determined not by a desire to narrate
but by a desire to exchange. (Roland Barthes, S/Z)
