conflict
I find that conflict does lead to understanding, however it is often not approached in a positive manner. I recently attended a class where the forum was debate. You could not choose pro or con and had to defend your side. What a great way to become more informed about a topic and it lead to an understanding of a point of view that I did not have before.
Often students are not given the opportunity to defend their point of view and provide research to back up their point. If students interacted in this manner more often, then inquiry would come more naturally.
