Creation Myth

Bingqing's picture

Hey, I am Bingqing. I am a member of Emily Balch Seminar 20. Here is a link to website about Chinese creation myth, Pangu and The Creation of the World.  This is my favourite one compare to many of other creation myths.

The Pangu's story is on the central part of the web wage.

Hey everyone, it's Ilana. I

Hey everyone, it's Ilana.

I have only i believed n evolution throughout my life. In a way, it's all I've ever known and been taught since I was young. As a kid, my teachers, my parents and my education told me that we evolved from monkeys, that the world began as these little particles, which then became organisms and then somehow evolved into all kinds of creatures. So, I guess I've just come to take that as fact. It's all I know.

However, outside of school I was raised with a Jewish upbringing, meaning at Hebrew school I was taught the story of Adam and Eve, though they presented it as a story. I see the stories of the Torah/Bible as its own mythology. Or a way with reconciling/explaining big themes or events in life. I do believe that both have merit and their own places in society.

Anyway, I decided to include the Greek creation story:

Creation Myth

Hello I'm Angela. I'm in Seminar 10.  I was raised catholic. My mother's family is a very Portuguese very catholic family.  I went to Catholic school kindergarten through 6th grade.  During this time I was always taught the Genesis' account of creation in religion class.  I always questioned it and found it hard to believe.  I do believe in the evolution theory, and although my mom is catholic she still takes the Genesis account with a grain of salt.  She believes "God made evolution."  If I paste this link correctly you'll see an African Bushmen Creation Myth.  I found it interesting because in the story, the people "disobeyed" their "God" out of fear--fear of the dark, fear of the cold--something that everyone experiences.  It is also why I believe all these creation myths are told and clung onto so tightly by many.  People fear what they don't know.  No one knows how we came to be, and for many this is a scary thought.  Because of this, these stories are told to make sense out of something that can't be explained.

 Hi! As my unoriginal

Hi! As my unoriginal username suggests, my name is Aimee. Should I correctly post the link, you'll find that Genesis' account of creation has special meaning for me. I was raised in a semi-Catholic household, so my parents used the "Let there be light," story to explain the origin of the universe to me as a child. Of course, like most semi-Catholics, we do not view Bible literally, and I personally feel that Genesis is just a very nice lie. However, I am enmeshed in a Judeo-Christian society, so I can never quite escape this very nice lie.

Aztec Creation Myth

Hello I am Carolina Parra. I am Seminar 21. I really like story's more than science so I stayed away from the evolution theory. I decided to use The Aztec theory that involves different gods and the reason why the Aztecs sacrificed people.
