the final theory ...

Its a REALLY interesting question, whether science (or anything else) NEEDS a "final goal". And an actively debated one (see Getting It Less Wrong: The Brain's Way, and week 11 notes for a philosophy of science course I'm currently coteaching). How about "striving" for the "surprising/interesting"?
